Orthotics & Functional Electrical Stimulation - The Seaham Physiotherapy PracticeOrthoticsThe scope of orthotics available in health services and privately is varied and it is worth discussing what is available during your consultation with the Seaham Physiotherapy Practice. Functional Electical Stimulation(FES) for foot drop and other problemsFES is a means of producing contractions in muscles, paralysed due to central nervous system lesions, by means of electrical stimulation. Most effective in stroke, spinal cord injury, head injury, cerebral palsy and multiple Sclerosis. The electrical stimulation is applied either by skin surface electrodes in the Seaham Physiotherapy Practice and surgically in various hospital/rehab settings. For more information see the National Clinical FES Centre website. The Sterling Physiotherapy Practice has expanded and now offers a full range of physiotherapy services from the Seaham physiotherapy clinic and the Sunderland physiotherapy clinic. |
