Shoulder

Shoulder x-rayShoulder pain can be caused by something as simple as a muscular strain or be deeper rooted in the capsule, cartilage or result from nerve and neck problems.

The shoulder joint is a complex one because of it’s mobility, yet it is expected also to provide the body with stability. Poor posture is often implicated in shoulder pain.

The problem can cause difficulties with some daily activities and it is important to get to the cause of the problem as early as possible to resolve quickly and efficiently.

Treatments available from the Sterling Physiotherapy Practice for shoulder pain include: acupuncture for pain, massage, joint connective and soft tissue mobilisation, mobilisations with movement, posture re-education, biomechanical correction/training, specific exercise to speed recovery and maintain/regain fitness levels, core stability training.

Elbow Pain

Elbow x-raysCommon terms used in elbow pain are 'tennis elbow', “golfers elbow'. These are usually caused by over use, over stretching of tendons, ligaments or nerves. Poor joint alignment is another common cause of stiffness and pain and is usually fairly quick and easy to resolve.

Wrist and Hand

Wrist x-rayThere are many causes of problems in this region, lost movement after injury and fracture being the most common. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a problem which can respond well to therapy but sometimes requires surgical intervention. Sterling Physiotherapy Practice believe it’s best to use therapy to alleviate your symptoms and, if not successful, then refer for an orthopaedic opinion. Too many people get referred for surgery when therapy could help to avoid this, research has shown how successful physiotherapy can be in avoiding surgery.

Treatments available from the Sterling Physiotherapy Practice for wrist and hand include: acupuncture for pain, massage, joint connective and soft tissue mobilisation, mobilisations with movement, posture re-education, biomechanical correction/training, specific exercise to speed recovery and maintain/regain strength, range of motion and fitness levels.

The Sterling Physiotherapy Practice has expanded and now offers a full range of physiotherapy services from the Ashbrooke Sports Club and the Sunderland physiotherapy clinic.
